The University of the West Indies Disaster Risk Reduction Centre (The UWI DRRC) on behalf of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) has conducted a Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Audit on Montserrat. The CDM Audit was conducted over a 5-month period to assess the current systems and processes in place across the four phases of the Disaster Management Cycle i.e. Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery. At today's National Validation Session a summary presentation of the CDM Audit Findings will be presented to key stakeholders.

Remembrance Day honours the heroic efforts, achievements and sacrifices that were made in World War 1 (1914 – 1918), World War II (1939 – 1945) and subsequent wars. The Commemoration, includes a Wreath Laying Ceremony and a short Church Service. Members of our Uniformed Bodies will be on parade.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association British Islands and Mediterranean Region (CPA BIMR) is conducting an Election Observation Mission for the 2024 Montserrat General Election. This mission includes international observers and analysts from Commonwealth parliaments who are monitoring the electoral process to ensure transparency, accountability, and public confidence. As part of the observation efforts, the CPA BIMR team is meeting with various stakeholders, including media representatives from ZJB Radio Montserrat, to discuss their experiences and the role of media during the election period. The mission highlights the importance of election observation in enhancing democratic processes across the Commonwealth. On October 3, 2024, the Government of Montserrat and the Governor’s Office hosted a public meeting focused on exploring the island’s renewable energy potential and its application in various sectors. Discussions centered on how renewable energy can benefit industries such as agriculture and ecotourism, along with opportunities within the blue economy. The meeting aimed to promote sustainable development and energy initiatives, offering insights into the future of renewable energy on Montserrat.

The Ministry of Communication, Works, Labour and Energy held a town hall meeting discussing the new lighting standards as part of the RESEMBID energy projects on Montserrat. The Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Housing and Environment in collaboration with the Royal Montserrat Police Service, Disaster Management Coordination Agency and Montserrat Port Authority, hosted a fisheries workshop on Wednesday 28 August 2024. Fishers gathered to learn about Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS), crucial safety equipment and the policies for registering vessels. The workshop was well attended and with a healthy amount of participation from the attendees.

This year’s Small Beginnings Youth Orchestra Summer School in Montserrat brought together young musicians for an enriching two-week workshop from August 12th to 22nd. A small team from the Guernsey Music Service, led by Mr. Tim Wright, collaborated with the Small Beginnings team to facilitate the workshop, held at the Montserrat Cultural Center Cultural Centre. The workshop emphasized the importance of musical education and cultural exchange between Montserrat and Guernsey. The young participants developed their skills across various instruments, from percussion and strings to woodwind and brass, and even showcased their vocal talents. The video captures highlights from the final concert on August 23rd, where 44 children performed in a stunning orchestra finale.

The Ministry of Health held a blessing ceremony for various pieces of equipment at the Glendon Hospital, including a CT scanner, a mammography suite, ambulances, and other medical equipment. The event also included the blessing of a refurbished building, the Margetson Memorial Home, which was designated for decanting some hospital services during the construction of the main hospital, set to begin later in the year.
